✢B2B Credit Limits

Credit limits per company, location and buyer, enforced at checkout

Set credit limits for B2B companies, their locations and individual buyers, then block or warn at checkout when an order would go over — with a credit ledger for the merchant and a credit view for the buyer.

✢The gap

Shopify supports payment terms but has no concept of a credit ceiling. Nothing stops an account on Net 30 from ordering far beyond what it can pay, so the exposure is discovered in a spreadsheet after the fact.

✢What it does

  • Set a credit limit per company, per location, and per individual buyer
  • At checkout, block the order or show a warning when it would exceed a limit — your choice
  • Buyers can split an order between net terms and paying part of it now
  • Buyers see their credit, what they have used and what remains, in their customer account
  • Every purchase, cancellation, refund and limit change is recorded in a credit ledger
  • Checks credit at the counter too, through a Shopify POS tile

✢How it works

At checkout

  • A purchase-control block shows the order total, the deposit, the amount on terms, and the company, location and buyer credit it draws on
  • An order that would go over is flagged with the amount it exceeds the limit by
  • With blocking on, the buyer cannot complete it; with blocking off, the warning is shown and the order goes through

How limits combine

  • Each location can carry its own limit, up to the company total
  • Buyer limits within a company add up to no more than the company limit
  • One order can draw on company, location and buyer credit at the same time

For the merchant

  • A dashboard of every company’s limit, usage and remaining credit, editable inline
  • A ledger per company, or across all of them, with opening balance, purchases, credit restored and closing balance

✢Best for

  • Merchants offering Net 30/45/60 terms who need a ceiling on how much any account can owe at once
  • Brands with a large wholesale base where risk varies significantly by account
  • Any business where finance or ops is tracking wholesale exposure in a spreadsheet

✢Requirements

  • Shopify B2B, with payment terms applied to the company

✢Works well with

  • B2B Onboarding — Newly approved companies can be given a credit ceiling from the start.
  • POS for B2B — Wholesale orders taken at the counter are held to the same limits.
  • Quick Order — Large self-serve orders stay inside each account’s limit.
